Hi all,

Just finished compiling 2.2.6 & installed it.
The old settings from 2.2.2 where all kept, and it came on-line without an error.

XP however *still* can't talk to this vanilla install of samba.
NT doesn't have a problem.

I'm using no authentication or anything.

It must be something with the changed protocol on XP.

Any help or info would be great.

Thanks.

No problems here using Samba 2.2.6 & XP pro. Post the global section of your samba.conf - maybe someone will see something.

I should also ask what exactly you mean by "can't talk".... does the samba server show up in the windows network on the XP computer? If yes, what happens when you try to access the samba server from xp?

XP has some problems with samba ...Just we need to tune it up..Pls post the exact error when you are browsing the network.

regards

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies, but it seems to work now.

Sorry for the time!

um...I hope it continues to work ;)

As another alternative I'm looking at PC Netlink (solaris only).
The rumour is that it is faster then samba, although it looks like a pain to set up.
It needs PDC admin rights...but I only want to use filesharing..

Never mind, solution is working.
Don't change a winning team!

I'm curious what solution you performed to get xp to see and work with just a vanilla (plain) samba install? I'm new to samba myself and run xp and have had problems too.
