Xp won't load game pad

I installed a interact hammerhead game pad. It works fine and is recoqnized as the hammerhead. But everytime I reboot it comes up as "unknown device" it's usb. If I pull the usb out and put it back in it's recoqnuzed and everything is fine. Is there anyway I can force it to recoqnize it on boot up?thanks

There are several updates to XP from Microsoft that might help your USB problem.
