XP wont boot without CD after fix

Help. I had to get a shop to remove spyware and they did a bad thing. Inside my case was a bad drive not being used. They reloaded XP Pro after hooking up the bad drive (it overheats and stops in 15 mnutes). After they left, the drive stopped and I found that by unplugging the bad drive, the machine would start but not find the OS. I stuck in my XP CD and it is running but I cannot reload XP as it thinks that it is loaded although the good drive is not setup as a boot drive. The shop is so busy chasing Spyware problems they won't get back top me for another day.

Any suggestions... how do I get XP to reinstall on the good drive? Do a complete backup, then start from scratch again?
