Hello I have a Wireless network set up with a Dlink 614+ A version. I have two notebook computers connected to the internet through the Dlink through a cable modem. Both computers can access the internet and ping the router. They can also print to a printserver connected to the router. BUT, they cannot ping each other!

IPs are as follows
192.168.0.1 DLINK 614+
192.168.0.101 Winbook J4
192.168.0.100 Inspiron 8000
192.168.0.102 Printserver Hawking
192.168.0.103 Toshiba 755e

I have disabled the firewall settings in Window XP ICF. Still no luck.

Is filesharing possible on this wireless setup or do you have to have them hardwired through the ethernet cable?

Any ideas?

Thanks

You should be able to easily file share between these clients.

The lack of a ping suggests either a firewall of some kind is still active, or the router is directed to block ICMP requests.

Other than ICF, watch out for "hidden" firewalls in other products. For example, PC-Illan by default istalls a firewall component that will block all pings.

The fact that they are wireless clients is irrelevant. The ping is being blocked in software or at the router.

Ignore the ping issue for the moment, and begin by setting up two client workstations for file and printer sharing. Steve Winograd has written a very clear and detailed explanation of the steps required:
