Hi, I need to work with ASP. I thought to add windows 2000 to my comp. The problem is that Win2000 is older than XP, and so I cannot install it. I know there are software tools that create partitions on the hard drive. I am hopping to avoid it. I wanted to uninstall my XP, install win2k, and then reinstall XP (home addition). The problem is that I got my comp with XP installed on it already and so I don't have XP's CD. Technical support said that the code for reinstalling XP is somewhere on a hidden partition on the hard drive. I'll appreciate any help. Ilan.

You will have to create another partition. You should have gotten the CD with the system Why did you not? Who makes the PC? As for the code, the CDKEY should be on a sticker on the system or on the book that came with the system. once you reinstall you will call MS and get a code. Since you have it installed once they wil las a series of questions.
As for win2k, as I stated you will have to make a nother partition. James Collins

Hi butchrecon, thanks for super quick response.

In the past I installed Win2k on top of 98, and the comp created the partition itself. If I had a major problem with Win98, I used to back up my files and reinstall the whole OS. Then on top of a fresh copy I installed Win2k, which was a matter of a few clicks. I am hoping to do the same now when installing XP on top of 2000.

But this time it is different since Win2k is not the original OS of this particular comp. Here I need to uninstall XP, install Win2k and then on top of it winXP. Was I too confusing?

Thanks, Ilan.

Is there info on the drive you want to keep? if not then just fdisk the system then create 2 partitions to install both Windows versions. Once you create 2 partitions it will not matter which one is installed first. James Collins
