My Welcome Screen with all the User Identities in a list has disappeared and there is nothing I can do to get it back. I've changed the specific switch in Control Panel-Users; I've used tweaking program XSetup; I've used VB script fix_xp_logon.vbs.

I am using XP Home SP1. Is there anything I can do to get it back?

Do a in place installation of windows, shove the cd in and tell it to reinstall that way you will only have to redownload the windows update files.
Or you could try the command line Sfc /Scannow
it will check your system files
This may fix your problem
And uninstall the tewaking programs there a pain

Are you sure you checked Documents and Settings for your old account info? If you created a new account by say, disjoing a domain and then rejoining, you will have a separate and distince account as far as XP Pro is concerned. The good thing is you can go out to Documents and Settings to copy/recover your favorities, desktop, etc.

You might also schedule a chkdsk /f for next reboot if you suspect corruption.
