XP upgrade hangs after 3 mins....

Can any of you help ? We recently purchased xp Home edtion and for some reason our computer doesn't like any cds as boot disk (I've checked the BIOS) So i decided to run the cd with 98 running. thats fine it wants to install it all, I put my key in I get to where it says preparing for installation and 3 mins later it doesn't progress. I can leave it for hours and nothing happens. Any ideas? I can still press esc to quit... It should be OK because I installed it on another computer to make sure then took it off. Any help appreciated.

P.S. Ive checked the specs and xp will run on my machine.

When it hangs try rebooting with XP cd still in the drive and see if it will continue. Post back after you have tried this.

Also just to confirm that the boot from cd is ahead of boot from hard drive in bios list. (Does your bios allow a boot from CD?)

Also check to see if your CDROM is Slave or not. I just had an experience with a CDROM and a CDR installed on the same machine and it would only boot from cd when I stuck the cd in the cdrom that was set as master. Just a thought.
