Is there anyway to solve this problem without reformatting and installing XP again?

A customer has XP and kids put a game in. It crashed and after that it boots to a blue screen saying the drive area is unmountable.

Can't get into any safe mode of any kind.
Always returns to the blue screen.

Thanks,
Michael

Boot to the XP disk, and try fixboot, and fixmbr.
If that doesn't work do a repair install. Cheers,
Jim

See if anything here helps.

Try running Chkdsk from the recovery console.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
