An user reported to me that she is having issues with the computer in the office. The PC is running XP pro sp3.

I was trying to use system restore. And then the message says something like this:"You do not have sufficient security privileges to restore your system.......".

The user has the local admin permission assgined.

Any idea how to get the system restore function back to work?

Hi Ben, I did try to login as Domain Administrator and ran the system restore. It came back saying "was unable to restore ...". I also tried to run it under the safe mode. It didn't work either.

Hi tootiredtocare, when I logged in as Domain Admin, the system restore service was on.

Any more ideas?

What issues is she having?

Ones that could be fixed with a Repair Install? Might be your other option if SR isnt working.

She was having problem accessing the Internet last Thursday. Error message said something like this: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close". She said she used Amazon last Tuesday morning with no issue.

Something happened between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday. So, my first thought was to do the System Restore to Monday.

What IE version was she using? Ive had a ton of issues here at work with the latest and rolling back one version made everything better.

That said, does FF or Chrome work fine?

She uses IE7. I tried to install IE8 and failed. Plus, all windows updates failed. But when I ran anti-virus, no virus detected. What else to try?????

Try installing FF or Chrome and see what happened. How did it fail?

Does it have internet connection? Can you ping

I did run some programs, such as Advanced SystemCare and SUPERantispyware. And "disabled" a lot of add-ons from IE. The mahine seems to be Ok to use right now. The user can use the computer checking her webmail and go to Amazon website. But the "system restore" tab is still missing. And it won't do any "windows updates". I was trying to manually install IE8 and failed. Somethign is still wrong.

rclarke250, I will try your suggestions later.

Any other suggestions?
Thanks a lot.

Are Windows Updates and System Restore turned on?
