hey everyone,

I'm trying to understand the following:

in my company we have a DHCP server (running on a win2k server) that's configured to obtain the ip 192.x.x.1 as a GW
for all his clients.
take in mind that i have two Gateways:
1 => 192.x.x.1
2 => 192.x.x.2
for some reason, i have noticed that one of my xp client seems to have 192.x.x.2 as a GW (regardless of his DYNAMIC ip configuration - no special reservation for him)
the command $ ipconfig , shows 192.x.x.2 as a GATEWAY
when i have checked the ip address trough the xps' LAN status the GW seems to be 192.x.x.1.
when i tracert a host, 192.x.x.2 is the actual gatway.
also, when i did ipconfig/release --> /renew
192.x.x.1 returned ....

could anyone please explain the phenomena

**** XP shows different gw address in "network co.." and "ipconfig"**

sorry

Hi blacklow

In Network Connections tcp/ip properties then advanced, and under default gateways do you have any manually specified gateways?

Trevor

no none..
also i did a test...if you choose a gateway it will appear in the gateway paramter (but as a shadow one).
