xp setup Wont detect SATA Hard drive

Hi All,
I want to reformat my c: coz of some errors etc. and when I boot from win xp cd. it says cannot detect hard drive.

I have Maxtor 160GB SATA HArd drive. No jumpers on it.
I tried installing SATA drivers again but windows says it is already installed. BIOS can't see the Hard drive.

Had I not wanted to re-format I wouldn't have noticed this problem. Otherwise the machine works ok. It is custom built - not a brand.

My mother board is MSI K8T with AMD Athlon 64 proc.

Any ideas GREATLY appreciated!!
