I have a pc that until this morning was running fine... now it boots up, then the screen goes blank. I booted it up with an XP cd, and it boots into Windows install, but when I go to run a repair, it can't find the hard drives (2 SATA). When it initially boots up, the HD's are listed, and I can hear them start moving. I went into Setup and they're listed there as well.
I've replaced the SATA data and power cables twice, and still the same result. I couldn't imagine it being the video card, as I'm able to view the bootup sequence and XP setup screens.
I'm no A+ expert, so I'm not sure what else to do... if anyone has any ideas, that would be great.

Have you checked in the bios to verify that the drives are detected? I have seen where the cable worked loose and was not letting the drives connect.

Yes, they are detected by the BIOS. I thought it might be a cable at first, but they're all new and in tight.

Any chance you updated the video driver and it's not functioning correctly?

Nothing has been updated, it just up and quit working. But that gives me another idea, I'm going to move the video card to a different PCI slot and see what happens. Maybe an IRQ conflict or something?

Duh, forget that. It's AGP. [evil]

When doing the repair install, you probably need to provide the SATA driver diskette. Press F6 when prompted early on during the install process. You'll eventually be prompted to provide the diskette.

and if you haven't got a SATA floppy, you should be able to create one from the motherboard install CD or by downloadn=ing them from the motherboard manufacturer's site.
