For those on dialup, you likely will see a CD of Service Pack 2 stuck inside or on the cover of many popular computer magazines.

I understand you really do not want to have to use your dial-up connection to download this Service Pack.

So, here is a chance to have it shipped to your door, for free. Get in line early.

Best,

And for those betting on the dates for SP2 RTM, RTW, RTWU and other esoterica, there are a lot of clues here.

The only hint I will provide:

"When can I order a CD in my language?

CD Language
Date Available to Order

English
August 25, 2004
"

Please note the site is accepting orders for English now.

No more hints.

I like this quite a bit from the Microsoft site:

"Share This CD with a Friend
After you have installed Service Pack 2, Microsoft encourages you to give this CD to a friend or family member using Windows XP."

Now that is nice.

If you want to slipstream Service Pack 2 (Recommended for the final version) you likely will need two sets of instructions.

1. How to extract and combine the files, whether from CD or from the network download of Service Pack 2. See half way through this document, the section "Scenario 1: Installing Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional integrated with the service pack"

2. As for burning the image to create a bootable CD, see:

What about the people who are:

1) On Dial-Up
2) Cannot Afford a Magazine
3) Do Not Have any Friends, therefore no-one to give them the CD
4) Cannot get the Free CD Ordering Site to work (ME)

Thank god i'm on Cable otherwise i'd be stuffed. [bigsmile]

That link resolves, I just tested again.

If not, you are on dial-up, cannot afford magazines, and have no friends, you can always use Windows Update.

I can get the link to work but when entering the Country as UK and Language as English, it just times out. I'm guessing that the UK will have to wait a little longer before ordering.

By the way, you blew my hint as to the official release date by answering your question.

That's pretty funny that microsoft lets you choose location and language, then the server times out because you can't order it yet..

Its also quite funny that MS are now encouraging the passing round of their software to friends and family,

"Share This CD with a Friend
After you have installed Service Pack 2, Microsoft encourages you to give this CD to a friend or family member using Windows XP."

they would normally be horrified!

Anyone got any other software to share???

If IT ain’t working Binnit and Reboot

The site will take an order if you do not mess with the language defaults.

With the exception of gpalmer@palmersoft.co.uk

Greg,
