Hi
I have just installed XP SP2 on a Toshiba laptop. The internal modem no longer works as any attempt to use it or query it generates a meesage saying that the port is already in use. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the modem using the Control Panel and reinstalled the drivers but to no avail. Anyone experienced this and found out how to cure it?

Many thanks
Mike

Mike,

I am sorry I don't have a different answer for you but I would suggest removing SP2. My mom installed SP2 on her PC and her modem stopped working as well. Kind of.

When she tried so connect to the Internet, she gets a message saying that the modem cannot connect and to manually dial the number of the ISP, hit ok and then hang up the phone. The modem then connects. I don't get it either.

Have you tried Hyperterminal to see if you can at least dial out?

Needless to say I am pretty un-impressed with XP SP2. I have seen other posts where going into the modem properties under advanced and deselecting the SP2 firewall as a possible help.

If you find a fix, please post it. I would like to see what you have done.
