I am trying to install an upgrad on an XP machine. I keep getting this annoying error message stating that I don't have sufficient rights to do anything. I am logged in as an administrator on the local machine so I am not sure why this keeps happening.

What can the problem be? It's driving me totally nuts.

I have tried taking ownership of the entire C drive, this didn't solve the problem.

HELP...

I presume that in taking ownership of C:\ that you checked the box for propagating the ownership/rights down to all its folders, subfolders and files. In my experience it propagates the ownership/rights down only to those that already have ownership/rights explicitly defined. You need to identify the others and explicitly deal with them individually.

A free utility that incidentally identifies them is Treesize. You can download it from here:

Depending on the size of your hard drive and the amount of data on it it may take some time.
