XP Repair Loops

My buddy recectly came to me with his compaq laptop. It was having some major issues, so we decided to do an XP repair. He started the repair but half way through the battery went dead and we had to start over. Now every time it gets to one minute before it's done it restarts the repair. We can't get past that point. I decided to go into the recovery console and do a CHKDSK /R until there were no errors and then try the repair but unfortunetly that didn't work. If anyone has any ideas it would help alot. Plus if I don't figure this out my friend is going to kill me because I told him to do the repair.

You should report the issue to Microsoft, as if the battery reporting status was working correctly I think the repair process should have stopped immediately with an error message.

Well I followed the article at that link and did everything it said in step 1 but when i exited recovery console it was suppose to restart into XP but it didn't. it just flashed a blue screen and then restarted again.

I wonder if the procedure involving the Boot.ini file mentioned in this article would help?
