The requirement is for a small business owner, to dial up on weekends and retrieve or view account data.

When remote desktop computer is set up, it answers every call . I want it to be selective.

Q1 ... Can remote desktop be turned off ? how
Q2 ....Can remote desktop be scheduled ? how
Q3 ....Can remote desktop number of rings before answer be changed ? how

A1. right-click My Computer, Properties, Remote. Check or uncheck the lower box to enable/disable the service and select Apply. But see my other answers.

A2. Possibly. If you feel comfortable with Scheduled Tasks features of XP you could as Administrator establish a set of scheduled tasks using the NET START command line interface to services. If the default user is not one with Administrator priviliges, you will have to enter an Administrator username and password to enable XP's RUNAS function.

I think this would work as two example entries:

i). Entry to start Remote Deskktop at certain date/time:
net start RasMan

ii). Entry to stop Remote desktop at scheduled date/time:
net stop RasMan

A3. It is configured through the Telephony interface. Control Panel, Modems and Faxes, Modems, Properties. Depending on your modem it might be listed under AutoAnswer options for Faxes.
