I have been running NT4 with procomm 4.8 and an external modem, connected to com1. The modem is a 300-2400 bps and works fine. I have been given a new XP pc and have installed procomm. If I connect to a 2400 bps site there is no problems, however if I connect to a 300 bps site the modem answers and I some times recieve a character or two, but I am unable to communicate. If I enter modem command mode and dial using ATDT this works fine. Is there any known problems with XP and Procomm working at low speeds?

When you use modem command mode, Procomm skips the TAPI layer in Windows and talks directly to the modem. This may mean the initialization string configured in Windows is to blame. When you call older modems, you sometimes need to disable error correction and data compression to make a connection. I would look in your modem manual for these commands (they vary from chipset to chipset), then change the initialization string in XP to add the necessary commands to disable error correctio and data compression. Then, dial from Procomm without using modem command mode and see if that takes care of the problem.
