XP Pro user cannot log in to the domain

I have an XP user who's having access issues with the domain. Intermittently, she can access shared network directories, but when she tries to copy from her machine to a network directory, her write times are 35-40 minutes when it takes other users only 3-4. Also, there are times when she gets a log in box when trying to access one of the servers in network neighborhood. Sometimes this works, sometimes she's denied access. Any ideas anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

1. NT or Win2k or Win2003 domain?
2. Is the user the only XP client, or are you mainly an XP client shop?
3. Are the timings you gave relative to all non-XP clients, or are other XP clients having the same issue?

My guess is that it is a configuration issue with the TCP/IP settings. In particular, the DNS entry is pointing to WAN side resolution and not the local LAN.

If your other clients are essentially doing Netbios resolution in NT fashion, this would explain the difference. XP does not do resolutions like that quickly or well.

Otherwise it can be anything from a bad cable, nic, autonegotiation of speed or duplex at the switch, to a larger range of hardware issues.

Thanks for the response Bcastner. It is a Windows 2000 domain. Another symptom; if I log into her pc as administrator, I cannot add any domain accounts from the domain onto the local machine when I go through users and passwords in control panel. It kicks up an error.
