XP PRO SP2 - Icons only in Open

We got a brand new computer last week - pre loaded with XP Pro SP2.

When we go to "Open" from within any program (Word, MYOB etc) we can't change the view to List or Details.
They are available on the dropdown, but the view won't change to either selection.

No problem changing the view if we are in Explorer or My Computer.

Any ideas on how we can change this behaviour?

Hi. did you look on the Control Panel, Folder options, there should be on the view tab, th eoption to show both parts but administrate as one selected.

Also please send more information on your settings, specially on any explorer folder/tools/options/view

. Version used for Microsoft Office, including Service Pack level?

. What exactly happens when you click the Views, Details, for example. Nothing changes at all?

. In your thread topic, you describe it as an icon issue. Is it the icons that you are missing, or literally no matter what Views option you choose, nothing changes in the listed files at all?
