Aloha everyone!

Yes, there is another question/problem with slow responses in XPpro - Server 2003. While the other postings delt with the issues of slow opening files, saving files and viewing files in WINXPpro to server, my issue is simular yet differnt.

A month and a half ago we upgraded to 2003 Standard and all clients to XPpro. Two of my clients show the same symptoms. Opening and listing the contents in a folder. For example, when a user is in Outlook2002 and wishes to attach a file which is located on the network drive, the insert file window opens and it takes a good 30 seconds for the contents to list (during this time, the window is not propegated with the folders contents).

Server 2003
14 clients XPpro
TCP/IP
Server Netcard set to Maximaze Data...for file sharing
100base
no roaming profile
all clean installs excluding 2003(upgrade from 2000)

What are my options and should I reference the "slow to write to server 2003 from XP" forum?

Many thanks and Aloha,
K-

What happens when you open explorer and try and browse network?
I had a problem similar a while ago and found that in device manager there were two totally unrelated devices(sound card/graphics) which needed drivers reinstalling--fixed the whole slow populating of save as windows etc.
Are both machines same build?

Sounds to me like DNS sint configured properly. Make sure that the IP settings are correct. With AD you will have DNS running, make sure the (SOA) and (A) records are there and the named server (ns) is correct and can be resolved without error.

I had this problem cos I was too lazy to sort out DNS until someone shouted loud enough.

Make sure
default gateway is pointing to the router
DNS is pointing to either main DNS server or atleast a secondary if u have one.

Elmurado, all XP systems are same build. I have not pushed the majoir uppdate to the clients as yet for fears the two slow systems will cough and pass it to the others (kidding haha). I'll update the drivers for the sound card and other devices. Who knows, it may be the OLD HP6p which is now on cruches. Good time to install the ML-2250.

hannahsh, my IP and DNS server show no errors, server start does not produce error logs either. If it were a hidden IP/DNS error causing the original issue, would that be the cause of my active directory "Computers" not to respond yet accessable through >Action>Connect to annother computer. Funny how one solution could solve another.
