XP Pro Setup message said previous Windows 2000 files and DOS files are being deleted.. (Note: he bought computer 2nd hand and he has no recovery disk on previous Windows 2000) After that message the install he powered power down.. but reboot still stays with the same message: XP Pro Setup is stuck unable to go forward/backward;ERROR: Data Error (Cyclic redundancy check) Fatal error: One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup cannot be loaded.

What are you trying to do, is it upgrade the old Windows 2000 to XP Pro, or a clean install of XP Pro?

If it is the latter, this article should help you Format and install XP Pro.

HOW TO: Partition and Format a Hard Disk in Windows XP (Q313348)

Read the paragraph,
"How to Partition and Format Your Hard Disk by Using Windows XP Setup."

A CRC error is a disk error, and it is unclear from your description whether the error is on reading from the CD Drive or the hard disk drive.

It sounds like it cannot read the CD Drive very well. Clean the CD itself and retry booting from the CD a starting a clean installation of XP. You may have to call Microosft and obtain a replacement CD.
