I just got a new Dell 8400 desktop w/ XP Home installed.
I wanted to install XP Pro but it says that setup is unable to find the Hard Drive.
My copy of XP Pro is from 2002, but I'm wondering if this has to do with the SATA HD.

Your help is appreciated,

Jeff

I have - probably prematurely - written zeros to the drive and I still get the same problem - unable to find HD.

Are you pressing F6 during Setup and installing the drivers which it requires to able Setup to see the hard drive in the first place?

yes I tried that option and it still found no HD. the only difference was it now says it could not determine the type of mass storage device - then says to press S to specify additional SCSI adapters, CD-Rom drives or special disk controllers...
When I do this it tells me to insert mfr supplied support disk into drive A:
Of course I dont have a drive A: and I only have the dell drivers disk.
