I have a machine with XP Pro installed on a 20G HD. After uninstalling and deleting all nonessential programs from the disk and cleaning everything I can get my hands on, I still have less than 6G of free space left. How big is XP Pro with SP2?

I have installed it on 6gb drives with space remaining for applications.
Current machine has 15gb partition with 5gb free and the windows directory itself taking 3gb.

Boomarang, have you defragged the disc after deleting all those programs? That may be what it needs.

Acer EEE701 with 4Gb SSD as C: and 4Gb SD Card as D: running XP Home...

C: 3.72GB total, 2.28Gb Free
D: 3.74Gb total, 2.73Gb Free

That includes Firefox, Thunderbird, Open Office + others on the C: drive, and a full AutoRoute 2006 (1Gb) on D:.

XP can be installed in much less than 500Mb - check out NLite -

Use a tool to SHOW you where all the disk space is and then you can see if some of it can be eliminated. This information can't be gleaned from an install on another system.

I use Tree Size Pro. It gives you a great breakdown of where space is being used/abused and then you can start to analyze if any of it is deletable.

Run Ccleaner

Chances are you got a few hundred mb of hotfixes, temp files etc etc....
