I have a XP Pro and am trying to log into our NT 4 domain. (the PDC is running Windows NT 4 server with all current service packs)

When I run the Network ID Wizard on the XP it says "A domain controler for the domain WORKGROUP could not be contacted."

I have connected more than fifteen xp pro machines to this network, why is this one giving me problems? I have compaired all the settings I can find in the TCP/IP properties box to the other XPs and they are identicle.

Any suggestions?

If you log the XP machine on locally, can it see the network? Ping other machines?

The XP pro can see all the machines on the network including the NT 4 server. It can brouse thru files shared for everyone, but any network resourse that requires permissions, it can't. I cannot get the NT server to authenticate it.

Don't use the wizard. I ran into this before. I had to re-install the XP box, then when joining to the domain use
the "change" button instead of the wizard.

wolluf your links didn't solve the problem, I still get the same cannot contact message

I have also tried just changing instead of running the wizard, but no luck

I had to re-install XP first. Clicking change prior to re-install also did not help me.

j93saturn, I will try to reinstall, nothing else is working. I will let you know if it works
