Anyone experience this on XP professional.

All XP Pros are hanging at "loading personal setting" when logging into the domain. If you choose to log into the computer itself and not the domain, it doesnt hang. So the system must be tryn to load something network related.

The work around has been to bootup without the network cable being connected. Then was the desktop loads, plug the cable back into the NIC.

More info.

This has only been happening since Saturday. (Did some patch go out from MS this weekend?)
And the server is NT4. No one but XP pro desktops are having this problem.

I suspect a virus.

Check the registry value for this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVer
sion\WinLogon
The following value may be missing or latered from this key:
Name: USERInit
Type: String Value|REG_SZ
Value: c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe

XP workstations need the server to have its own DNS to validate quickly to the domain. Before XP it wasn't an issue. Now it is. I found this to be the case on Win2000 Server domains.

In Network Properties, delete QOS. It speads things up.
