I recently installed XP Pro upgrade on a Win 98 SE system. I had problems with some software that required me to re-install Pro. Well, this time around I did the full install and changed my file systems and other options. One thing I noticed in doing this is when the system came up, no icons were put on my desktop, but the system seems to be working. Also I don't get a prompt for my password on entering XP. Can anyone explain what is going on? Thanks

You should still have a Recycle Bin on your desktop, correct?

If so this behavior is normal as your old profile is no longer being used.

Secondly, the password thing can be changed, but more than likely you set it up as the only account on the machine.

Yes, I did have a recycle bin. Your response is exactly what's happening and answered my question completely. Thanks!!!
