Hello everyone.
Until recently, I was running XP Pro on my Athlon 1800+ / 256Mb DDR without any major problems (SCSI master / IDE slave).
A few days ago, I began having problems; the machine was becoming increasingly slow and finally started crashing. I chose to re-partition and format drives, install an old Win98 version and then re-install XP Pro. The first couple of hours the new XP worked fine - then the trouble started over again. - And so did I; re-partition, re-format and re-install (XP).
But - even in the second re-install the problem persists... I have run several virus and spyware-scans, found a few errors and corrected these. Now it seems that my system is clean, but it still crashes... Any ideas as to why?? (I'm getting desperate and pretty close to buying a new pc!!) I tried to clean the registry as well, but was running a trial version and could not clean all of the identified short-cuts etc.
Could this cause problems of the kind I'm experiencing?
Also, I'm running a mix of FAT32 and NTFS-partitions (of which one is currently faulty, from where I'm trying to recover my data) and recently installed both a new HD (IDE, where my primary disc is SCSI) and a DVD-rom.
Any help is *much* appreciated, thanks!
