I am doing a clean XP Pro install on a Gatway W98 GP7-550, 550MH's CPU and 128MB Ram, previously running W98. I downloaded 6 boot Disks from Microsoft and successfully loaded 4 of them and then got the following error message when loading No.5:

"File ntfs.sys caused an unexpected error (4103)at line 5010 in d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\setupc,

Press any key to continue."

Any ideas what this is and how I resolve it.

Could be as simple as a bad floppy. Is there any particular reason that you're not booting directly from the cd to install?

I should have said that the Computer is a Pentium 111.

The CD-Rom is the first boot device in the Bios but it will not boot from there so I thought I'd download and expand to the 6 floppy disks and try that.

Perhaps it is just a bad floppy so i'll change that and try again.
Many thanks for the advice.

Your machine does not meet the minimum requirements necessary to run Windows XP.

Only a bad floppy, problem resolved.
Many thanks
