My CD Burner wont recoginize any cds, but the cd-ROM will. When I put a disk in the cd burner the cd icon will flash next to the mouse pointer for about 5 seconds and then it goes away and the light on the cd burner goes off. Please help me.
More info needed. Is this a new installation, or unit which has worked before? If you try to open the burner program/utility, does it show a CD present?
After going through different troubleshooting steps, my last resort was taking the burner out and trying it in another pc. It worked fine in there. So, I was about to change SCSIs, but decided to hook it back up to the orignal one, made sure the cabeling was in there securely and it worked. So, I should have checked the obvious first. The only reason why I didn't is because my pc had not been moved, changed or anything else. Plus, it was seen in device manager saying that it was working properly. One day the burner was working and the next day it was not. So, that's why I didn't check the obvious first and I should have since that is the first rule of troubleshooting.
I used to have an AMD K6-2 450 system that would randomly refuse to boot saying it couldn't find the hard disk. The only cure was to pull the IDE cable from the mobo and reinsert. Never did find out why it was happening ?
