I have spent two days researching a client site that needs to continue Novell 3.12 servers for their proprietary software.

They want to add additional workstations, and XP rather than 98se is all that they are offered (by Dell).

Now, without ambiguity, without any BS, has anyone tested an XP Pro install using the Win native Novell client software? (Please do not tell me to use Novell Client. This is not NDS).

You can go to your grave knowing that I will thank you for the rest of my life for an honest, tested, answer for my client. Otherwise, I will tell him to buy his Dell, and install 98se.

My best to all that can help,
Bill Castner

Hi, Bill.

I have now installed exactly two XP pro workstations in Novell 3.12 environments. Both are Dell machines, one is a laptop and the other a 2200 workstation.

I have had no problems doing that whatsoever.

I did use the Novell client (don't ustand yr comment abt "this is not NDS" - the client works with bindery connections) but because the client install was on a Novell server I did so by putting up the MS client first to get connected and then installed the Novell client on top of it. The only reason I did that was so the Novell logins would be consistent with the other WS's on the net and because I am more familiar with customizing it. The MS client seemed to work just fine.

The only problem I had was figuring out how to suppress banners (separator pages) on reports printing via Novell-based printers (it's in control panel).

Thank you!

Now does the Novell client work with XP Home Edition?

Hi, Bill

Sorry I have no experience with XP Home. I don't recommend it as I ustand
it has been crippled in the networking area and also cannot register a domain
using that version.

Likely it can be done but will require some legwork to get the necessary bits
and pieces installed and configured.

Best regartds
Jock

I work with Novell 3.12 and XP-Pro using the Win native Novell client software. It works great.
