Hi all,

would really appreciate any hints or pointers..
strange situation.. I am setting up a home network,
machines:
1) Windows Xp/deskpro with built in network card
2) Windows 2000 Server.. with PCI Network card.

I setup these machines, manually set the IP Addresses to:

1)192.168.0.5 .. subnet mask 255.255.255.0
2)192.168.0.23 .. subnet mask 255.255.255.0

(i am not entirely sure what subnet is but this seems to
be what I have set it to before and its worked fine)

joined them into a workgroup together, connected a cross-over cable.. restarted both machines and they could see each other.. all was well..
I have been running the 2000 server with SQL Server 2000/7 on.. and also running a DVD player off this machine...

suddenly the connection stopped working.. nothing I could do would make it happen again..

a few days later the connection came up again and has now dropped..
I have replaced the network card on machine 2, tried setting the speed on the cards to be the same as each..

but at the end of the day they cant see each other, I can not ping one machine from the other.. they can ping themselves though..

any ideas would be great..

Dangerfield.

Disable all powersaving and "Repair" XPs Network connection after a while

Hi Gheist..

Where can I do that.. I have found powersaving on the Network card.. is that what you mean? is it elsewhere too?
