Hi,

We are in the process of setting up a new computer with XP already loaded on the system. We can view the internet and receive email BUT the problem is that we cannot send any email. We have checked the settings spent about an hour with our ISP to see if they can come up with something. We also contacted the company we purchased the computer from. We do have NAV and have turned it off to see if that was the issue and it was not.

Have you just removed the account from your ssettinbgs window and rebuilt it again? I've seen everything look just fine and thats all it took to fix it.

Can you ping the mail server?

Do you get an error message?

Hi DaDog,

We have removed the account from our settings a rebuilt and we had no luck even doing that. We use Earthlink for our ISP and we have tried to ping the server and cannot. When we test email the error message we get is Inbound Mail Server Fail, and we can get inbound mail, Outbound failed and WAN Miniport IP Fail.

Hummm, does XP have the netdiag utility that win2000 has,
i.e. netdiag.exe? If so run netdiag -v .

It can of course be tough to spot the problem even if it
does show up there.
)

Firewall blocking port 25?

You say you have Norton Anti-virus, I reckon that means yer
server names and account names are changed by the program,
if you use the Server names that Earthlink provides does that help..

The "Outbound failed and WAN Miniport IP Fail" message
is interesting, so how does this machine get its IP?
Is it some kinda Internet Connection Sharing, WinRoute or
a router or what?

What kinda driver does the NIC have? up to date? In IPCONFIG
is the NIC assigned to a NDIS driver or a something else?

I'm no network pooch so I'm probably missing something really simple,

Try running the NIC as simple as we can and change the NIC to another mode such as 10 1/2 duplex.

If all else fails have a Rum 'n Eggnog,,,
