Hey all, I'm not sure where to start with this issue so here I am in the XP forum. Some of my users (me too ) occasionally have serious delay problems sending emails--about a minute to send an email. When the delay happens this error message pops up in a balloon (pointing to Outlook as the problem child) just above the task bar:

Outlook is trying to retrieve data from the Microsoft Exchange Server srv-DCx.MyDomain.com.

For some reason Outlook is trying to send email through my domain controllers. I've checked DNS and everything is resolving correctly. I've run ipconfig /flushdns & ipconfig /registerdns many times. This doesn't happen very often but often enough that my General Manager would like it fixed. Here's my setup:

Windows Server 2003 Domain level
Exchange 2007 on a 2003 server
XP SP3
Office 2003 SP3

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks,

Joe B

Have you seen these?

“Outlook is trying to retrieve data from Microsoft Exchange….”

'Requesting data from the Exchange server...' or 'Outlook is trying to retrieve data…' client messages

Try your luck in one of the Server Forums too.

Microsoft: Exchange 2007

Hey linney, What I've found most often are references to hard drive performance problems on the server. I've run %DiskTime and %IdleTime stats on the server and we're good there. HOWEVER, on the MSexchange.org site I found a couple of references for Reads and Writes per second with recommendations stating that 20 Reads/Writes per second is a good target to shoot for. I did a quick test and had an average of 101.312 with a maximum of 736. I've checked at different times and sometimes we're lower and sometimes we're higher. The highest so far is an average of 390.420 with a maximum of 1032. The answer seems to be more spindles and RAID 1+0. Unfortunately I'm running RAID 5 and three drives. I'll do some hardware upgrades and report back on what the results are.

Thanks,

Joe B
