Having a serious situation attempting to connect via the internet using the wireless. Here are the details:
*Acer Travelmate 291 laptop
*512MB DDR / Pentium M 1.4
*Integrated Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG
*XP Home / SP2 / All Critical & Optional updates complete
*Windows Firewall Off / no other firewall
*Clean install performed (after diagnosing and not being able to fix)
*Can get to the internet via RJ45
*Machine runs perfect otherwise, no spyware, etc
*All services have been turned on that should be on (tried to disable / restart wireless zero config...seen that work before)
*Other wireless devices DO work just fine within range
*Attempted this in a Linksys wireless and Netgear wireless environment
*Tried WEP and without WEP
*Installed Linksys Wireless USB...SAME RESULT
*BIOS set to defaults (no specific setting for wireless)
*Disabled the ethernet/rj45 to see if there was a conflict
*Matched exact settings with the working wireless units
At a TOTAL loss. My concern is that the onboard as well as a third party USB wireless card (linksys as mentioned) does not work, which tells me that the onboard card may not be shot. Again, clean install, full reformat.
Acer wants $449 to look at it and fix it!! What a rip! Yes, out of warranty. Just over a year old.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
