Hi Guys,
I have a system with XP home edition that had a corrupted file (hal.dll) and couldn't bootup. I have rebuild the boot.ini file using XP home CD. After the system was up I don't see any files on the three users profiles that this computer has. All three profiles have admin priviliges. For example the my document folder shows that it 80MB. However by clicking on it there are no files at all. I have tried to search for those files in the hidden files without success. Can any body tell me how to procced.

Thanks

Have a look at your files from Safe Mode, see if it is an Access Permissions problem, in Safe Mode you'll see the Security Tab.

While there run the Disk Checking software, by running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Are you getting any error messages when you attempt to browse these Document and Settings folders?

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

Thanks Linney,
I will try it tonight and post the result.
