my friends PC is having some start-up problems. windows will boot up and start to load the desktop, then Windows explorer has an error,(it does not say anything about the error it is just the send error report message),and then the task bar does not load. the keyboard has the windows key to bring up the start menu but it does not respond to that. i can not find a way to open the start menu! the PC runs fine except for that!

thanks for your suggestions!

I would suggest trying to get into your msconfig.
to go here without going through your start menu then to run and typing msconfig, do this: Go to "My Computer", then "C:\" (or wherever your system files are located), then to "WINDOWS", then to "PCHealth", then to "HelpCtr", then to "Binaries". Under this folder you should see "msconfig." double click it and go to your startup folder. Uncheck every single thing that it lets you. click apply/ok and close out of it. restart your computer and if it works, then go through the same process and add 1 startup item at a time until you find your culprit. Try this and post your findings.

MsConfig is attainable via the Start Run box.

Any other clues in your Event Viewer?
