im trying to recover some data for a friend so ive put his hdd into my machine and can read most of the data except whats stored in the my documents\user name directories which is what he wants
i have the user names and passwords, but not sure how i can access it

any ideas?

You must make sure that your Access Permissions are correct for the files you wish to access.

You may have to turn off "use simple file sharing" in Folder Options/ View to access the Security tab.

This will help too.

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP (Q308421)

there isnt an option in file sharing to turn it on or off

I only have the sharing tab which doesnt allow me to change the permissions

the 2nd drive has 2 set users and i need to access there files i have the user names and passwords but can only browse the files on the drive without set permissions. The original motherboard the drive was attached to is blown and i am not able to boot from it - any ideas?
