XP Home Backup problem

This may seem small to some people but I really need advise. Am working on a Dell 8200 Dimension (XP Home Edition) attempting a simple back-up. I installed the back-up command from the xp cd...it only allows backup to the a: drive.

So, I TRIED backing up to hard-drive (which worked) but then could NOT get it from there to cd's.

Please...someone help........

Also, does anyone recommend any freeware backup program for xp home edition?

Any advise is greatly appreciated.
