I am using Virtual PC on Windows 7 and have Server 2008, Vista and XP running as guests. The Server and Vista were installed from disc. The XP was installed using a vhd created using diskwvhd. Both the Server and Vista are able to connect to the network, but the XP cannot. All guests are configured as DHCP clients. Running ipconfig /all on the Server and Vista displays the expected network information. However, this XP result does not. The result is:

C:\Documents and Settings\John>ipconfig /all

Windows IP Configuration

C:\Documents and Settings\John>

The network status icon indicates that the VM is connected, but there is no network access. The XP vmc has the expected entries for the network device.

Any thoughts as to the problem and how to fix it?

Have you had a look in Device Manager on the XP VM? I'm guessing that it only has the 'real' network card from the real machine, or maybe none at all. You should be able to add an emulated network card in the VM settings when it's shut down. If it's not picking up the drivers, mount the IntegrationComponents CD image found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Virtual PC\Integration Components and install it from there.
