Hello,

We run FileMaker Pro 4.1v1 on a Windows XP Pro Box. It kept getting the XP Error with "XP Encountered Problem and your program will be sut down", then you have to choose SEND REPORT or DON'T SEND REPORT TO MICROSOFT. After that you cannot log in to FileMaker Pro 4.1v1 Database. Any suggestions?

FileMaker has a nasty habit of crashing on startup when it's default printer is no longer available. If this sounds like it could be your problem then you will need to change your Windows Registry.

BIG WARNING: If you make a mistake in the wrong area of the registry you can render your whole system useless.

If you understand the warning and are comfortable editing the registry you will find the default printer located somewhere like this:

Start | Run | Regedt32

HKEY_CURRENT_USER | SOFTWARE | Filemaker | FileMaker Pro | 4.1

From there either enter a valid printer or clear the value altogether. I'm not running v4.x but v7.03 is located as described above.

I also believe that you can uninstall / reinstall FileMaker to clear the default printer.
