Hello,
I recently moved into an apartment with a cable modem. I have a HP desktop that I purchased in 2001. I have always used it with a dialup connection, but am now having problems connecting via LAN.
I have tried out many options and now believe that my NIC is not compatible with my operating system, Windows XP. I am able to ping number addresses (ex. 216.109.117.204) but not name addresses (ex. which I have been told that my machine is not configured with a DNS server address nor is the network card XP compatible.
My NIC is:
Name: Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC
Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver Date: 7/1/2001
Driver Version: 5.396.530.2001
Is there any updates for this driver to help me out or should I get a new card. Please give me advice for my best options?
Thank You,
