Novell 5 is old and so are it's object's functionality. We are looking at a trickle of new Pcs loaded with XP. There would be obvious demand for these machines and was looking into strategies or even papers regarding the 2 together.

Note: we still use Zenworks startup and though I have workstation registration enabled it is only for inventory purposes.

Any ideas on Novell 5 network with XP desktops best practices? ========================================

ZENworks for Desktops v3.2 has partial support for Windows XP but it really depends on what you are looking to do.

Novell Client 4.83 SP1 works on XP also. -----------------------------------------------------

What ever you do DO NOT USE HOME EDITION!!! To long to explain, but it just doesn't work right.

ZENworks StarterPack (Startup) is ZEN v2 Support for XP is not there with out MANY updates. It's actully cheaper (company ran a cost analysis) to just buy ZEN 3.2 (4 is now avilable) than it is to get ZEN 2 SP to work with 2K and XP and maintain it.

Be sure you have SLP configured.

Be aware that Novell no longer supports Netware 5.0; if you upgrade, get upgrade protection instead of just buying the upgrade. That way if a 6.1 comes out you don't have to buy it, you just get it. You will get the current netware version now. Upgrade protection lasts for two years. Brent Schmidt CNE, Network +

Why do user go into a panic when a NetWare server goes down, but accept it as normal when a Windows server goes down?
