I am troubleshooting a Windows XP Pro SP2 user's blue screen of death. She has received it twice today performing routine operations. I have fun a full antivirus scan in safe mode and have found nothing. In the Event Viewer the following error occurs 2x every second and it looks like it has been for some time, but the blue screen of death just happened today so I'm not sure if they are related events.

Source: DCOM, EventID: 10005, User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
DCOM got the error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."
Attempting to start the service lap with arguments "-Service" in order to run the server:
{BOC61A79-0870-4BE4-9153-9CCAF422E31F}

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Similar problem on a friends PC, where the MEM was set to TURBO mode in the BIOS, by resetting it to NORMAL/STANDARD, the BSOD's disappeared...

What is the BSOD message?

Check the Registry for {BOC61A79-0870-4BE4-9153-9CCAF422E31F} and see if you can confirm what Service it represents. See if there is a problem with that Service or any of its Dependencies.

If you don't have problems in Safe Mode, it may be a driver causing the BSOD.

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore (in Safe Mode) will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Windows.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.
