I have about 3 computers upgraded from Windows98 to WindowsXP pro. All of them have muiltiple user accounts created so that people can share the computers. The problem is that it is extremely slow on the login page.

When the machine boots up, the first screen shows logon icons for all users. It takes at least 3-5 minutes to move the mouse from one user icon to the next one. If the user last name starts with 'Y' or 'Z', it takes forever to get there.

The strange thins is every thing seems normal after user login. User can use any programs with normal speed, even the network stuff. All user accounts are created on each XP computer locally. Any ideas why?

Are you on a network ?

If so, its probably your DNS settings check em all on the DNS server

Just to maybe help...if after you are logged on..then log off.to log back on does the problem still exist? or does it just happen on a cold boot?...

Those PCs are all on the network. Connection is made thru citrx program. There is no settings to checking e-mail on the server.

It happens all the time on the logon page, even without the system booting. Logon and then Logoff do the same slowness.

Thanks for the thoughts.
