Using XP Client for novell and experiencing slow logons and network drives disappearing. My computer icons will show X thru icon then after refreshing the drive will connect but slowly. Any suggestions?
Have tried adjusting frame type, connection speed of adapter, network # and even downgraded the client from 4.9 to 4.83 and it works better but not great.

what protocols are you using - ip only or ipx as well
what is the server(s) and what's it got bound

i assume your nt and 2000 are ok
it's just the xtreme p*** machines that are progmatic
if so what's sp is on them and what tweaks have you done

is slp configured properly and how is it distributed

It's only a 4 workstation network with the other 3 workstations still using dos... One workstation died so they replaced with it XP for some reason and are only using ipx and runnning some older finance software. It seems to connect ok but if the computer is left for some time without running any apps it seems to disconnect so I turned off all power saving, screen savers etc etc but it seems like the problem occurs after idle time. Didn't know if there was some kind of client properties I am forgetting about.

Some new PC's have a network adapter which, for energy saving, turns itself off after some time.

Check the properties of your network adapter, to see if yours has the option....
