I restored about 20 folders to home space from the server, using ArcServe 6.1 from a Win XP Pro computer. Now all of the Win XPs cannot access any Sys files. I can get a list of folders in My Network Places, for about 10-15 seconds, then all I get is a blank list. Programs will not run as well. It says it cannot find the path. All rights on the SYS volume and folders seem correct. Login is fine. I have tried using Admin and other users with the same effect.

Win 98 computers still access the network perfectly!

Win XPs are using Netware Client 4.83.0.0 SP1. It seems to be a permissions problem. Could it be something on the XP computers security or is it on the server?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Additional Information: If I uncheck TCP/IP in the network control panel the XPs will access all Netware programs. I am using the built-in network card on the Optiplex GX260 Dells. It is an Intel PRO/1000 NT NIC. If I substitute another PCI NIC all programs are accessed. And as mentioned earlier all Win 98 computers are accessing fine.

If it is a 1000 NIC I presume this means it supports Gigabit? Have you tried forcing the speed/duplex on one to whatever the network port is configured to?

No, since they can access the proxy server with TCP/IP enabled and Netware 4.11 with TCP/IP disabled I concluded the cabling is ok. Something in Windows XP seems to be shutting down the Netware server connection about 10-15 seconds after login. All computers login ok, it is a strange one.
Thanks for the advise. I will try that idea.

Have you got the client installed with IP and IPX (not IPX compatible)? You will only be able to access the NetWare 4.11 server over IPX as NetWare 4.x does not support IP connections. Maybe it is doing something funny with IPX on the workstation?
