Set up new XP PRO laptop. Everything ok. Connected to network and domain, say 192.168.2.xxx

Took laptop to location where needed, subnet is 192.168.1.xxx. Can connect to network but not the domain.

Can access Internet.
Can access servers via \\servername
Cannot access anything when trying to browse network, get to domain name but then get "Domain is not accessible... The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available"

Cannot run any applications on the local servers.

The laptop is joined to the domain.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

You need to clarify you say that you can't connect to the domain, but you have indicated that the laptop has joined the domain. Can the laptop authenticate to the domain? Check the DNS settings for the laptop first to ensure that they are correct.

Clarification...
I authenticated to domain to join domain, was able to browse network, run applications from servers, etc.

Now that I have moved laptop another city, another subnet, same domain, I can log on to domain, cannot browse network or run any server applications.

You moved to a new subnet.. are the TCP/IP settings for the local subnet correct on this laptop (ie DNS for instance). Compare with other hosts on the subnet

Actually, you probably can't log onto the domain. Most likely you're logged in using cached credentials. If your network connection isn't working, then there's no way you could be connecting to the domain.

Try doing an IPCONFIG /RELEASE followed by IPCONFIG /RENEW after moving to the new site.

Thank you for your replies.

I had already tried the release/renew option. Was getting an assigned IP from the local DHCP server.

In the end I simply ran out of time to analyze the problem, so I changed the laptop to be a member of a workgroup instead of the domain, rebooted laptop, deleted the laptop name from the domain, renamed the laptop, rejoined the domain and everything worked ok.

Once again, thank you all for your imput.
