xp C drive "read only" on defrag

My hard drive tells me "Cannot write to this read-only volume" when I try to defrag. I am only user/administrator. Not netorked. I did properties/sharing, but don't seem to have a "security" tab ... Any advice appreciated. Tnx.

you must have something running that wont let you do it, in task manager try and shutdown some processes and then try and defrag use the process of elimination to determine what it is, also you could have a virus running on your pc make sure u have no virus by downloading and updating solo antivirus trial it is one of the best dl it at
