I recently tried to upgrade my computer. I had:
Gateway
?Gateway Motherboard for Pentium
Pentium III 1.0 Ghz
PCNY - 256 RAM
IBM IDE Hard Drive 40G
Seagate serial ATA hard drive 120G
Pioneer DVD Rom
Genric 52 x 24 x 52 CD-RW
Nvidia GEFORCE 64MB TV-OUT (forgot to write down model number)
200 Watt ATX Version PWS
Windows XP Pro
I upgraded to:
-----------
Asus Motherboard for AMD Athlon XP/Duron Processors, Model# A7N8X Deluxe
Anthlon 1700+ TB
GEIL DDR RAM 512MB PC-3200 Value 400MHz Ultra- CAS 2.5, 2T Command
IBM IDE Hard Drive 40G
Seagate serial ATA hard drive 120G
Pioneer DVD Rom
Generic CD-RW 52x24
Nvidia GEFORCE 64MB TV-OUT (forgot to write down model number)
350 Watt PS2 Size, ATX Version PWS
Windows XP Pro
Upon startup, systems goes through POST. As it goes to load Windows XP, I
see a quick flash of a blue screen (BSOD) that has some explanation of an error
that is occuring.
"You're system is shutting down to prevent further damage.
If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow
these steps.
Check for virus's on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive comtrollers. Check your Harddrive to be sure that it is properly configured and terminated. Run chkdsk /F to check for harddrive corruption, and then restart the computer. "
Then the computer just reboots itself. This would continue indefinitely
if I didn't stop it. It always happens as Windows is starting to load.
I tried booting from the six-disk XP boot disks. Then tried "R" recovery. Then tried chkdsk /p /r (/f didn't work). I still get the same errors. Any suggestions?
